Commissioned for public use along the Hudson River this sun shelter is both skin and structure as it uses 40mm thick steel sheets at different curvatures and cutting patterns to achieve static balance. The canopy is supported by two planar steel sheets at either end. The side walls are open at 45 degrees contributing to overall balance. The limited use of materials and the simple geometry combined create a powerful freestanding structure both functional and sculptural.
