A new floor was built on top of an existing 1969 all-concrete building to create this duplex in Paris. A combination of floor-to-ceiling wood panelling, tiled walls and volcanic basaltina floors echo the original building’s design and essence, providing the perfect backdrop for the client’s own collections of 20th century furniture and contemporary art.
Unlike typical Parisian apartment buildings, hallways were removed so that the space reads as a series of perspective planes to highlight both the art and create spatial depth. The choice of darker finishes was made possible as the duplex receives generous light from both south and north.
